A newsletter for the quietly defiant

The ones choosing joy, depth, and slowing down in a world that rewards endless hustle.

Slow Fox Life is written people, like me, who have found themselves in places (e.g., careers, circumstances, relationship-patterns) that no longer feel quite right. The ones who know there is a different way to be.

So if you…

  • Honor slow & steady instead of hustle

  • Prefer rythyms to routines

  • Would rather flow with life than optimize it

  • Seek to create meaning instead of chasing achievement

I’m glad you’re here.

What I write about…

The things that make us human, that give our lives shape in meaningful ways: joy, stillness, nature, and a sense of purpose that doesn’t come from checking more boxes. My writing usually covers:

  • How we reconnect with our own rhythms, grounding your days through nature’s guidance.

  • How we nourish clarity, creativity, and courage, especially for those navigating burnout or transition.

  • How we live more intentionally, on our own terms, with essays on building a meaningful, aligned life that feels like yours, not a performance.

What drives Slow Fox Life?

My work is rooted in slow, intentional transformation—designed for those who feel called to step off the treadmill and live more truthfully. This work is a bridge — a bridge back to ourselves, to our connection with nature, to our sense of place. I honor complexity. Weaving the mystical with the practical, my writing offers a lens shaped by my love of the natural world—where joy is a birthright, slowness is sacred, and healing doesn’t require you to become someone else.

What does it mean to be a paid subscriber?

I’m a wellness coach and facilitator — and in a past life I lead learning design teams to create and deliver trainings across the globe — which is a long way of saying: I like talking to people.

Paid subscribers get access to real-time conversations with me (not just another podcast to listen to), plus discounts on online workshops and group experiences.

Self-paced prompts and quiet reflection are great, but honestly? What most of us need right now is a space for good, kind, thoughtful conversation.

And I’m an introvert… so you know I wouldn’t say that if it wasn’t true.

This space grows through sharing.

If an essay stirs something in you—tell me. I genuinely want to know.

And if Slow Fox Life speaks to you, share it. Forward it to a friend, post it to your corner of Substack (aka Notes), or simply hit the heart at the bottom of the page. That’s how this work ripples.

Get to know the person behind the words.

I’m Kristen. I’m on a mission to help people build balanced and joy-centered lives by deepening their connection to themselves and nature. I am an herbalist, coach, and the quiet disruptor behind Slow Fox Wellness.

My work began with my own reckoning with burnout and chronic illness. While on the winding path of healing, I longed to build a life that felt more meaningful. The promises of a “successful life” — as defined by the prevailing culture — became increasingly more hollow. I was searching for meaning—the soul-deep kind.

So I slowed down. I listened. I turned to plants, to seasonal rhythms, to moments of stillness that asked nothing of me. What I found was a different way of living—one rooted in joy, intuition, and self-worth.

Now, as a certified wellness coach and trained herbalist, I help others find their way back to wholeness. Through intuitive coaching, seasonal rituals, and nature-based tools, I support those ready to step off the treadmill and reconnect with the wisdom of their own lives.
